Each Triennium the National ECW Board picks a unified gift project that all of the local and diocesan ECW groups are asked to support. During 2009-2012 the ECW’s are raising money for “Nets for Life”. This is an ongoing project of Episcopal Relief and Development where mosquito nets are taken to villages in Africa by a team who teaches the local people how to use and care for the nets to prevent malaria. Malaria is still a leading cause of death, especially among children.
Each net costs only $12.00. Yet millions more are still needed to be purchased so each person can sleep under a net. The malaria causing mosquitoes are active at night time!
We ask that each church help support the project by assigning one lady in their church to collect the money and send it to her ECW diocesan treasurer or to the National Treasurer Sandra Powers at 3 Adoracion Circle, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas 71909. Put “Nets for Life” and your diocese on the check. Donating enough money for a net makes a great Thanksgiving or Christmas Gift, and the whole congregation can be asked to participate—men, women, and children.
Money should be sent to Sandra before the end of June 2012 so a lump sum can be sent to ERD from the ECW by the end of June, in time to announce the total collected at the triennial meeting.
Thank you!
